Here are just a few of the Target Corporations we are taking a look at. Of course, our referendum question is intentionally vague and more companies than those listed below fit the criteria. Therefor, this list is non-exhaustive and instead useful to explain what exactly we mean by the referendum question and a guideline for the Board of Regents when examining the funds the University is invested in.
Elbit Systems, an international defense electronics company headquartered in Israel, is a major supplier to the Israeli military (IDF), which enforces the occupation of Palestinian land. It is one of two main providers of the electronic detection fence for the Separation Wall in the occupied West Bank. The company is one of the main exporters of military drones globally and also produce a UGV – a weaponized autonomous ground vehicle which patrol the West bank, responsible for killing and maiming Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza.
Raytheon supplies the Israeli air fore with guided air-to-surface missiles for its F-16 fleet, as well as cluster bombs, consistently used against Gaza's civilian population and infrastructure. Raytheon's guided missiles were used to ruthlessly level civilian-dense regions during Operation Cast Lead. Raytheon has also tested weapons on prisoners in LA County Jail.
Group 4 Securicor (G4S) profits from global mass incarceration by operating in private prisons and provides transportation services for the Department of Homeland Security’s ICE deportations across the US-Mexico border. Though G4S has reportedly pulled out of Israel after BDS pressure, it still maintains private prisons and assists in deportations.
Boeing is a manufacturer of aircraft and weapons that supplies the Israeli military. Boeing weapons were used against civilians in Gaza in 2014, after which the company received an $82 million contract to continue supplying bomb guiding systems to the Israeli military. Boeing has a record of labor rights violations including retaliation against unions and exposing employees to hazardous materials.
